Völkl Deacon 80

deacon 80 review

The Deacon 84 is a bit damper feeling, more predictable and a bit easier to initiate a turn at low speeds. The ridge is designed to absorb vibrations and make for a stable ride, and it does a great job at that. This stiff-tailed ski is designed for perfect grip on-piste. The skis handle like slalom race skis. It's a great groomer ski to be sure, but how about moguls, trees, and crud? A Glass Frame construction places material only where it's needed to improve performance - around the perimeter of the ski.

The Deacons were the clear winner, so I bought them! If you're opening it up and really need that extra stability at speed, the 172 will come at a slight cost for shorter turns and quickness. I noticed that the more you pressured the central portion of the ski, the quicker it came around. In fact, this ski fulfilled all of the criteria of this category. I like the 82 for bumps and skied out trees. The Deacon 80 is a bit damper feeling, more predictable and a bit easier to initiate a turn at low speeds.

Hard morning snow and corduroy. The Deacon isn't going to give you much more flotation if any , and even though the system is the new low ride system, it's still not going to be as quick as the 82. I would recommend going to get your boots fitted at action sports! Boots: Tecnica Zero G 2017-18 - 110 flex. The fiberglass is flat at the bindings, so skiers can flex the ski more easily. Due to the stiffness of the nose, they tend to bury themselves in loose snow, and not to lick and not go around it. Best piste 4 - 7 Testing condition Red piste.

I am siding towards the 167 right now. Volkl's new Deacon 80 is a quieter ride while maintaining the energy and pop coming out of the turn you've learned to love in all the Volkl's that you have owned. They just begged you to push it hard and it was very easy. I like a quick carving ski that can handle crud and resort powder up to say 8 inches or so. The 80 is no slouch, however, very energetic and fun! The rails are still integrated into the ski, so the resulting performance is still exact and pin-point accurate. I love the added width because it allows for so much more consistent turns in mixed snow conditions. For 2020, has morphed into and joined up with the , previously known only for its beer leaguer race skis.

Aimed at your high level advanced skier up through your expert level skier. The complete team at Action Sports, Paul, Rich, Mike, Chelby and Bob were super informative and made us feel like family. Skis constantly grapple with the track and then break down, losing stability and knocking on their feet with unpleasant exhausting vibrations. This ski is just right for good skiers. These skis mostly want to lay trenches in groomers and chow down on packed snow, but they have a little extra kick for all-mountain skiing.

Ski Test: Volkl Deacon 80

Nice stable ride that initiates and finishes turns. You really have to drive it up into the turn but when you get it there, it locks in and stores energy and really has a good about of rebound out of the finish of the turn. Advanced and expert skiers will love its predictability and versatility. It features a Sensor Matrix, which uses a grid positioning on the upper cuff and lower shell that gives your foot a precise wrap while lowering the total weight of the boot without any compromise to energy transfer towards your skis. Squeezing is not easy because the skis are longitudinally stiff and despite the fact that they definitely have no problems with grip even on a hard track and even with a strong longitudinal load, they do not fly off the trajectory, it is not easy to bend them.
